Emily Casey, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Emily Casey studied agriculture and animal health at Clemson University in South Carolina prior to attending the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. While in vet school, she gravitated toward large animal medicine, particularly equine health. This fondness compelled her to accept a position of employment at a rural, mixed animal practice upon completion of her DVM degree. Two years there incorporated a phenomenal diversity of patients and cases into her job experience; overnight on-call duty, emergency care, farm visits, exotic pets and wildlife patients seasoned the day-to-day clinic cases with great variety. Because this type of schedule proved to be all-consuming, Dr. Casey transferred to a suburban Atlanta dog/cat only clinic with a more predictable schedule. This shift in hours allowed her the flexibility to enjoy her growing family.

For nine years, Dr. Casey honed her surgical expertise, focused intently on matching the most promising medical treatments for her patients and consequently acquired a loyal clientele of pet owners. Year after year of observing health trends, she found herself probing into alternative therapies for some special needs patients. These therapies were not widely endorsed by the clinic, but the results were encouraging enough to cause Dr. Casey to be eager to incorporate more alternative medicine into her then narrow repertoire.

Ultimately, the need to be closer to her extended family prompted her to uproot her family and move from the Atlanta area to seacoast New England. Dr. Casey joined the staff at Health & Wellness Animal Hospital in November of 2009. She met the level of holistic and alternative medicine practiced here with wide-eyed enthusiasm. At Health & Wellness Animal Hospital, she enjoys the freedom to incorporate alternative therapies with her traditional training for an integrative approach to animal health.
